DEPARTMENT OF PERMITS AND INSPECTIONS
The Department of Permits and Inspections is responsible for the administration and enforcement of building codes in Talbot County. The purpose of the codes is to provide minimum requirements to safeguard life or limb, health and public welfare. The codes shall apply to the construction, alteration, movement, enlargement, replacement, repair, equipment, use and occupancy, location, maintenance, removal and demolition of every building or structure or any appurtenances connected or attached to such buildings or structures in Talbot County.

Building owners and managers are encouraged to take a survey of their buildings to review for abnormal window and door operation, noticeable deflection of roof members, cracking of ceiling finishes, deflection of drop ceilings, deflection of sprinkler heads, new roof leaks are some early signs that a snow loading condition is potentially developing. After noticing these signs steps should be taken to have a more in-depth evaluation of the condition performed by a trained professionals with use of the proper safety equipment. It is also important to remember that all exits should be cleared of accumulated snow and ice to allow for safe egress of all commercial structures.
