Prison Rape Elimination Act

THE PRISON RAPE ELIMINATION ACT OR PREA WAS SIGNED INTO LAW BY PRESIDENT GEORGE W. BUSH IN SEPTEMBER, 2003. ONE REQUIREMENT OF PREA IS THE ADOPTION OF A "ZERO TOLERANCE" POLICY REGARDING SEXUAL ABUSE/HARASSMENT. THIS MEANS THAT SEXUAL CONTACT BETWEEN INMATES AND/OR SEXUAL CONTACT BETWEEN STAFF AND INMATES IS NEVER PERMITTED. THEREFORE, ALL REPORTS OF SUCH INCIDENTS WILL BE INVESTIGATED AND CRIMINALLY PROSECUTED WHENEVER POSSIBLE. MEDICAL TREATMENT AND COUNSELING WILL BE OFFERED TO ALL VICTIMS OF SEXUAL ABUSE/HARASSMENT. IF SOMEONE YOU KNOW CLAIMS TO HAVE BEEN ABUSED OR HARASSED, REPORT IT. THE TALBOT COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS IS COMMITTED TO MAINTAINING A SAFE AND SECURE ENVIRONMENT FOR ALL AND ENFORCES THE PRISON RAPE ELIMINATION ACT.
