Talbot County's Floodplain Management Ordinance is located under Chapter 70 "Floodplain Management" of the Talbot County Code. Updates to Chapter 70 became effective on July 20, 2016 along with the adoption of the County's new Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs).
The ordinance meets all state and federal regulations and contains recommendations for improved floodplain management. The NFIP requires counties and towns to issue permits for all development in the 100-year floodplain. Proposed develoment must not increase flooding or create a dangerous situation during flooding, especially on another person's property. If a structure is involved, it must be constructed to minimize damage during flooding.
