The Talbot County Department of Planning and Zoning administers the overall planning and zoning program for the physical development and growth of the unincorporated areas of the County. These responsibilities include:
Administration of County's Floodplain Management (FEMA) program
Assignment of Street Addresses in the Unincorporated Area
Commercial/Industrial Site Plan review and approval
Comprehensive Planning
Coordination of Special Planning programs including ther Affordable Housing
Enforcement and Administration of Zoning and Property Maintenance Codes
Enforcement of the Forest Conservation Regulations
Implementation of County Zoning, Subdivision, and Critical Area Regulations
Implementation of MD Agricultural Land Preservation Programs (MALPF)
Review of Building Permits for Code Compliance
State Rural Legacy Program Administration
This Department provides support staff to numerous boards and commissions including Affordable Housing Task Force, Agricultural Land Perservation Advisory Board, Board of Appeals, Historic District Commission and Planning Commission. Other services include the administration of local, state and federal grant programs and to provide assistance on a daily basis to the general public concerning the regulation of land use in Talbot County.
