EASTON — The Talbot County Community Center was the spookiest spot in town Wednesday night, when it hosted a colorful cohort of costumed children for its annual Halloween Boonanza.
The older kids, dressed as the Scream ghost or angels, skated across the center’s ice rink, while five year olds visited the vendors and games section of the event, clutching bags of candy. There were community vendors, face painting and a balloon artist to keep visitors entertained.
Chance Congleton, the recreation program coordinator for Talbot County Parks and Recreation, worked hard to pull all this spooky mayhem together.
“I like seeing all the kids in costumes. It is also a really big community event. All these local businesses really came out and showed their support. We even had around 10 high school kids volunteering their time,” Congleton said.
“There is a lot of fun, a lot of candy and a lot of community vendors giving out good stuff. We have a handful of carnival games to keep the kids occupied on top of the ice skating rink. It is really a great night out for any family,” he said.
Congleton worked with about 10 other staff members to pull this event off. It took a lot of phone calls and organizing to make sure Boonanza was a success, he said.
Hundreds of community members attended the event, which is one of several the Community Center has slated for the coming months.
“Friday and Saturday you can go skating. Skate with Santa is coming up. In February we have mommy and daddy and daughter skating. We are building a brand new gym. It will be ready in the new year,” Congleton said of some upcoming events.
