On Sunday, December 19, 2021 at approximately 11:30 a.m., Talbot County 9-1-1 Center received a fire alarm notification from the Talbot County Courthouse, 11 North Washington Street, Easton. Upon arrival, fire units from Easton and neighboring fire departments found that a computer located in the Clerk of the Court’s office in the North Wing had caught fire which activated the sprinkler system in that area of the building. The fire was extinguished, however significant water damage resulted. The incident largely affected the Clerk of the Court and Register of Wills offices with some smoke odor affecting the rest of the North Wing. A restoration company is on the scene to begin damage assessment and remediation efforts.

PLEASE NOTE: The Talbot County Courthouse including the Finance Office, Talbot County Circuit Court, Clerk of Court and Register of Wills offices will be closed on Monday, December 20, 2021. Further notifications will be announced once a comprehensive assessment of damages is made.

The South Wing of the Courthouse including the offices of Administrative Services, County Council Office, County Manager’s Office, County Attorney’s Office and Information Technology will be open as normal on Monday, December 20, 2021.
