Community Service Program
The Talbot County Community Services Program (TCCSP) is a diversion program providing an alternative and cost effective opportunity in which offenders perform community service as a means to dispose of their criminal case while reducing financial impact to the court and the community. Essentially, it provides the courts with a means to adjudicate first time offenders charged with misdemeanors by having them perform community service instead of being prosecuted.
Defendants on this program pay an initial Program registration fee of $40.00 and an additional $20.00 fee for each month on the program. Community Services does not refuse participation based on the ability to pay. Defendants who provide documentation may be eligible to have fees reduced or waived depending on income. Community service work is completed in a governmental, charitable or nonprofit organization approved by the Program Director.
A secondary benefit of the TCCSP is that it reduces expenditures for the Office of the States Attorney and the Courts by redirecting the valuable resources of those offices elsewhere, thus providing a benefit to both the community and the offender.
