The Talbot County Office of Permits and Inspections is pleased to announce an upcoming seminar focusing on the OpenGov Permitting Portal. The event will be held on Wednesday, April 24, 2024 from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Talbot County Community Center, Wye Oak Room located at 10028 Ocean Gateway, Easton, MD 21601.

The seminar is open to the public for anyone who may need assistance or insight for both current users and those curious about using the OpenGov Permitting portal. Whether attendees are seeking guidance on building permits, trade permits, or inspections, staff will guide users through the whole process from the customer's perspective.

"We recognize the importance of providing accessible resources and support for our community members navigating the permitting process," said Brent Garner, Permits Manager and Building Official for the Permits and Inspections Office. "This seminar will not only offer practical assistance but also foster open dialogue through live Q&A sessions with our knowledgeable staff."

The seminar agenda includes an in-depth review of the OpenGov Permitting portal, covering various aspects of its usage and features. Attendees can expect a comprehensive overview of the portal's functionalities, tips for optimizing its use, and insights into streamlining the permitting process.

"All departments are involved in the permit process simultaneously, thanks to OpenGov," noted Bryce Yelton, Assistant Planning Officer for the Office of Planning and Zoning. "Previously our permits were linear in that only one department would review the permit at a time. Our applicants are now also able to communicate directly with the person reviewing their permit and can see which step in the process their permit is currently at.”

Now that the process is online, users also receive email notifications when additional information is requested or if the application has moved forward in the process. The staff also receives immediate emails when applicants ask questions through the system.

OpenGov was implemented in March 2022, marking a significant milestone in enhancing efficiency and transparency in Talbot County's permitting processes. Since starting OpenGov, the County has seen a significant decrease in the time it takes to review permits, and an increase in our communication and transparency with our applicants.

All members of the public are invited to attend, whether they require assistance with the permitting process or simply wish to learn more about it. Registration is not required.
