Talbot County Council members Keasha Haythe and Lynn Mielke recently toured the new Talbot County Health Department building located at Achievement Park, 510 Cadmus Lane, in Easton. This visit marks a significant milestone as the facility nears completion.

Designed with the community’s needs in mind, the facility will offer an array of services and resources aimed at improving health outcomes for residents. Council members Haythe and Mielke expressed their enthusiasm for the new facility, emphasizing its importance in enhancing community health services.

"This new building signifies a significant investment in our community's health and future," stated Council Member Keasha Haythe. "With the facility conveniently situated along the Rails to Trails and near Idlewild Park, residents walking or biking can safely access the new location. We look forward to the positive impact this new space will bring to our community."

The project completion wraps up a nearly 10-year vision that started with the previous Council, who provided initial funding in their FY 2022 budget to find a new space for the Health Department. In October 2022, the County acquired the 38,000 square foot space at Achievement Park and began renovations.

“We would like to thank the previous Council for having the vision and support to fund this important project that addresses one of our community pillars, public health and safety,” said County Manager, Clay Stamp. “A project like this takes many years to come to fruition, and we are also thankful for the current Council for continuing to pursue this project with such dedication.”

Facility Highlights

The 38,000-square-foot space includes:

  • A spacious lobby, waiting room, and reception area
  • A range of counseling and patient rooms to ensure privacy and comfort
  • Additional administrative offices, conference rooms, and meeting rooms for streamlined services
  • Expanded clinical areas, including Women, Infants and Children (WIC) and Early Head Start offices, immunization rooms, and labs

  • Ample parking and accessibility features

The space was designed by Davis, Bowen & Friedel and engineered by Lane Engineering, with general contracting and construction management handled by Gillis Gilkerson.

County Government will provide facilities maintenance.

Health Department Services

The Health Department, a hybrid State-County agency, provides:

  • Family services including parent support, education, maternal and child health services
  • Clinical services including family planning, pregnancy testing, immunizations, rabies training
  • Birth and death certificates
  • Senior services including aging in place evaluations and care coordination
  • Health promotion services such as cancer prevention, education, screening, and treatment
  • Substance use support services
  • Environmental health services
  • Emergency preparedness services including emergency response to public health crises, severe weather, and industrial accidents

“The Talbot County Health Department is dedicated to promoting the health and well-being of Talbot County residents through comprehensive health services, education, and preventive measures,” said Dr. Maria Maguire, Talbot County Health Officer. “The new facility will allow our team to expand and continue to provide much-needed services to the area.”

History of Achievement Park

Achievement Park is a premier medical complex located on Cadmus Lane in Easton, Maryland.

Gillis Gilkerson transformed the abandoned printing facility into a medical park. Purchased in 2011, the 14-acre site with a 200,000-square-foot building, was redeveloped to consolidate multiple medical practices onto one campus. Now home to Shore Regional Health and DaVita Healthcare Partners, the park attracts top medical professionals to Talbot County.

In 2024, the Talbot County Health Department will become the newest addition to Achievement Park with the 38,000-square-foot facility located at 510 Cadmus Lane. Its proximity to downtown Easton, Idlewild Park, and the Rails to Trails makes it easily accessible to the public.

The Health Department will have a Ribbon Cutting ceremony for local officials and invited guests in June, before moving into the space and starting public facing services in July.
