Parks and Recreation is Ready for First Pickleball Tournament

Talbot County Parks and Recreation is excited to hold its first pickleball tournament on Saturday, April 13th and Sunday, April 14th at the Talbot County Community Center, 10028 Ocean Gateway in Easton.
Following the construction of the pickleball courts and the new gymnasium on the Community Center property, Parks and Recreation can now host tournaments on both indoor and outdoor courts, allowing for flexibility during inclement weather.
“We can’t wait to host tournaments throughout the year with other organizations, but we are proud that Parks and Recreation will start off with the inaugural pickleball tournament in the new spaces”, said Preston Peper, Director of Parks and Recreation. “Pickleball has grown in popularity, and we are happy to provide space for members of the community to play and hone their skills.”
The tournament will include men’s, women’s, and mixed doubles play in the following age groups 16-39, 40-59, 60+ ; play will be divided into the following skill level divisions: 3.0 and below, 3.5, 4.0, and 4.5+. Format will be a round robin pool play, followed by single elimination brackets.
Sponsored by Jason’s Computer Services, registration includes participation in one event, lunch, and a t-shirt for $40 per person. Additional events may be added for $10.
In addition to the upcoming tournament, Parks and Recreation also regularly hosts pickleball clinics and welcomes community members to play pickleball during drop-in time.
Drop-in times for indoor courts are offered in the mornings and evenings, $5 per person. Indoor pickleball court rental is also available for $20 an hour. Outdoor courts are available on a first-come, first-served basis and are free of charge.
