Press release provided by Talbot County Health Department

The Talbot County Health Department held its low-cost rabies vaccination clinic for pets on Saturday, May 4th at the Environmental Health building. In total, 46 dogs and 36 cats received the rabies vaccine at the drive-thru clinic.

The Talbot County Health Department would like to thank Dr. Michelle Allen and Becky Bowen with East Coast Vets for donating their time to make the event possible. “Rabies is unfortunately endemic in the State of Maryland and it is through the vaccination of pets that we can keep the people and pets we love safe,” said Environmental Health Director Brennan Greene.

The next rabies clinic will be held in the fall, and pet owners whose animals will need vaccinations are encouraged to mark their calendars.

Rabies is transmissible to humans through the bite of an infected animal. Ensuring household pets are vaccinated against rabies is a critical step in preventing the spread of the virus and per Maryland law, all dogs and cats 4 months and older must be vaccinated.
