Visitors encouraged to start using new access point ahead of Route 50 closure

The new vehicular entrance to the Talbot County Community Center and Parks & Recreation complex is now open, and visitors are encouraged to begin using it as soon as possible. This change comes in preparation for the planned closure of the current U.S. Route 50 entrance later this year for roadway improvements tied to the construction of the new University of Maryland Shore Regional Medical Center.

The new primary entrance is located on Longwoods Road (Route 662) and will remain open throughout construction. Once the Route 50 entrance closes for approximately 18 months, visitors will access the Community Center using the new Longwoods Road entrance or the existing Hiners Lane entrance.

“We encourage everyone to start using the new entrance now to get familiar with the new traffic pattern,” said Emily Gilmer, Director of Talbot County Parks and Recreation. “Making the switch early will ensure a smooth transition when the Route 50 entrance officially closes later this year.”

Maps and signage have been posted to guide drivers to the new entrance. Additional updates will be shared on the Talbot County Parks & Recreation website and social media channels, including the exact date for the Route 50 entrance closure.
