Winter Sports Registration is Open at Parks and Recreation

Talbot County Parks and Recreation announced that winter sport registration is now open for basketball, ice skating, hockey, and dance.

Youth Basketball registration is open now through December 7th. Children from 1st to 8th grades are eligible to participate. Cost per child is $70 and participants will receive a team shirt and basketball. Each team will practice one evening per week, followed by games on Saturday for 8 weeks. Volunteer coaches for youth basketball are also needed. If you are interested in coaching, please email parks@talbotcountymd.gov or call at 410-770-8050. Practice will start the first week of January, with games beginning on January 6th.

The Jamie Webb Ice Hockey program has two upcoming sessions, one starting on November 18th running through January, and the other starting on January 27th and running through March. The program is for children ages 4-12 who can effortlessly skate and want to learn the basics of hockey. Cost is $85 for 6 weeks of classes. Participants will focus on basic skating, balance, focus on edge control, starting, stopping, turning, etc. All equipment is provided during the clinic. Each participant receives a hockey stick and jersey to keep.

Youth Skating lessons have two upcoming sessions, one starting on November 18th running through January, and the other starting on January 27th and running through March. The Learn-to-Skate Lessons offers classes for all ice-skating skill levels, starting at age three. Cost is $85 for 6 weeks of lessons. Parks and Recreation also offers skating lessons for homeschooled students during morning hours.

Adult Skating lessons have two upcoming sessions, with one starting on November 13th running through December, and the second starting on January 15th running through February. Cost is $85 for 6 weeks of classes. Participants will learn balance, forward moving, stops, swizzles, and more. Lessons include 6 classes of 30-minute lessons, and practice time is available before each class. Skate rental is included, and helmets are recommended.

Additional skills-based classes available include Showtime, Power & Edge Skate, and Learn to Skate Hockey Edition. Registration deadlines are coming up quickly. To check out all the skating programs available, including information on public skate times, visit talbotparks.org/skating/.

Child Dance classes have an upcoming session in mid-January. Classes are offered for children ages 2 to 14. Students will be able to explore age-appropriate creative movement and try out different forms of dance. Classes for ages 2-3 will be offered on Thursdays from 10:00-10:30 a.m., Classes for ages 3-5, 4-7, 5-10, and 8-14 will be offered on Friday nights. Costs vary based on age range and includes 6 weeks of classes.
