It might be the last thing that most people would ponder, but a life with the unpredictable and embarrassing issues related to incontinuity is not uncommon. In Talbot County alone, almost one fourth of our senior population suffers from this condition, but the saddest fact is that half of that number, some 3,000 folks, must cope without the financial means to mediate the problem of having to "go."

Many of these seniors barely get by with the help of social security but not enough to afford the sometimes hundreds of dollars needed to cover such basic things as adult pull-up protective shorts. All too frequently, those seniors elect to forgo social contact, health-related appointment, or simple food shopping rather than face the humiliation of an accident in public.

The Talbot County Commission on Aging wants to help solve this problem by supporting the area's Senior Supply Drive.  Kate Stinton with Talbot County Community Health serves on the commission as the Nurse Program Manager of Talbot County Community Health. In her Spy interview, Kate talks candidly about this challenges seniors face with incontinuity and how such simple things as adult pull-up Depends can make a real difference for seniors wanting to age in place.
