On the 22nd anniversary of the events that occurred on September 11, 2001, Easton Economic Development Corporation (EEDC), in coordination with Talbot County Government, released a short film that provides a snapshot of resiliency within the community.

Funded through a nationwide grant program from AmeriCorps, the film asks Talbot County leaders to reflect on the history and aftermath of 9/11/2001, but also challenges them to look to the future.

“Our goal with the film is to share how, as a community, Talbot County is prepared for a crisis or an emergency,” said Deena Kilmon, Director of Strategic Initiatives at EEDC. “Most importantly, we hope to encourage our residents of all ages to answer that call to help others, and empower our youth to understand that they too have the power to affect change and improve the outcome of a crisis event.”

The Town of Easton, Talbot County Government, Talbot County Department of Emergency Services, and Talbot Young Professionals all served as partners on the year-long grant.

Local officials from Town, County, and State government participated in the film, including members of the Easton Town Council and Talbot County Council, County Manager Clay Stamp, staff from Talbot County Department of Emergency Services, Talbot Family Network Executive Director Nancy Andrew, Chamber of Commerce President Amy Kriener, and members of Talbot Young Professionals.

“We have to take time to capture the history of 9/11 with interviews from those who still remember it firsthand,” said Clay Stamp, Talbot County Manager. “That is how we learn from our past and ensure that we are prepared for the future.”

Ten minutes in total length, the video was filmed and edited by Mid-Shore Community Television (MCTV). The film has been shared on social media, and can be viewed at talbotcountymd.gov/we-are-talbotready.

The 2023 9/11 Day of Service project, including the film, was funded by AmeriCops and The Arc of the United States.
