New Entrance to Talbot County Community Center Now Open

The new vehicular entrance to the Talbot County Community Center and Parks & Recreation complex is now open, and visitors are encouraged to begin using it as soon as possible. This change comes in preparation for the planned closure of the current U.S. Route 50 entrance later this year for roadway improvements tied to the construction of the new University of Maryland Shore Regional Medical Center. Festival of Hope set for September 5 in Easton

The fifth annual Festival of Hope is set for September 5 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Anchor Church in Easton and includes the ninth-year kick-off for Talbot Goes Purple. Talbot Goes Purple is a community substance use prevention initiative from the Talbot County Sheriff’s Office. The annual Festival of Hope is a kick-off celebration also highlights the power of recovery and concludes with a memorial that honors people lost to substance use.  Read more

New Roadside Marker Honors Federick Douglass

Lt. Governor Aruna Miller today joined the Maryland Department of Transportation and descendants and relatives of Maryland native Frederick Douglass to celebrate the unveiling of a new roadside historical marker. The marker commemorates Douglass’ birth in Talbot County, self-liberation from slavery, and his work as an abolitionist, orator and human rights advocate. The event, held at the Talbot County Courthouse in Easton, marked the date of Douglass’ passing. February is also Black History Month and Douglass’ birth month. Read more

With multiple weather forecasting services and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) predicting an exceptionally active 2024 Atlantic Hurricane Season, the Maryland Department of Emergency Management (MDEM) urges residents to begin their preparations now. “The NOAA 2024 hurricane forecast calls for more storms than ever before and it is important that all Marylanders take preparations seriously,” said MDEM Secretary Russ Strickland, “High winds, storm surge, tidal and inland flooding can all be deadly consequences of hurricanes and tropical storms.” Read more
